No one ever asks why, however, knowing why something is can help you prevent it, or stop it. No one ever asks why people are addicted to things, yes, of course, you'll read about it in your health books as facts, but not to prepare you to avoid them. Why are people addicted to things?
There. I asked it. Like all of those Chinese people who are glued to their computers, or all of us Americans with our video games, then there are all of those people everywhere who are addicted to smoking, drugs, or alcohol. Why? In my opinion, from what I've noticed, they're lonely. And these particular things (computers, video games, cigarettes, drugs, and alcohol) will never abandon them. People will. These things will stay and do not judge them. People do.
So, now, back to those health books. The health books say that people will do drugs to fit in, and eventually it becomes an addiction. Let me rephrase this to make it follow my point: People will do drugs to fit in with other people, because they're lonely and they would do anything to have their friendship. However, those obviously aren't the brightest people on earth, because they don't realize that if they need to be high to be friends with these people that there must be SOME problem in the picture. But this blog is not about stupid people, it's about people who are addicted to something and why.
Have you noticed that there's a very fine line between an addiction and a habit? Habits just aren't generally bad, addictions are. I saw a movie once about this guy who had a very predictable life, he had formed several habits that were aligned with his watch. He had a habit of tieing his tie each morning. That's not such a bad thing. Other people have habits of smoking each morning. That is a bad thing. Except you would call the smoking an addiction, and wearing the tie a habit.
Webster dictionary says that a habit is a settled tendency or usual manor of behavior. It also says that an addiction is compulsive need for and use of a habit-forming substance. So back to my original point, a habit and an addiction are similar things.
Now, why should you care WHY people are addicted to things, I mean, you aren't? Or are you?
